Merupakan Lembaga Regulator Penerbangan Sipil di Amerika Serikat. Sebagai bab dari Kementerian Transportasi Amerika Serikat, baserta ini bertanggungjawab sebagai pengatur serta pengawas penerbangan sipil di Amerika Serikat (fungsinya seolah-olah dengan Direktorat Jenderal Perhubungan Udara di Indonesia).
Unsertag-Unsertag Penerbangan Federal 1958 menso dasar aturan berdirinya forum ini dengan nama "Lembaga Penerbangan Federal" (Federal Aviation Agency), serta memakai namanya yg kini pada tahun 1966 saat FAA bernaung di bawah Jawatan Pengangkutan (Kementerian Transportasi AS).
Kode Peraturan Federal (CFR) edisi tahunan yaitu kodifikasi peraturan-peraturan umum serta permanen diterbitkan dalam Daftar Federal oleh departemen serta forum Pemerintah Federal diunitsi oleh Kantor Federal Register (OFR) serta Kantor Penerbitan Pemerintah.
Diatur menso beberapa bagian, Karena Organisasi mereka membagi beberapa bab CFR. Setiap bab berkaitan dengan jenis tertentu dari aktivitas.
Misalnya,
14 CFR Bagian 141 – Berisi aturan untuk sekolah pembinaan pilot. Bagian yg paling relevan untuk pilot pesawat serta AMTS (Aviation Maintenance Teknisi) tercantum di bawah ini. Banyak dari Fars didesain untuk meyesuaikan sertifikasi pilot, sekolah, atau pesawat udara daripada operasi pesawat.
Setelah desain pesawat disertifikasi memakai beberapa bab dari peraturan ini, itu bersertifikat terlepas dari apakah peraturan berubah di masa depan. Untuk itu, pesawat-pesawat gres yg bersertifikat memakai versi yg lebih gres dari Fars, serta dalam banyak aspek sanggup demikian dianggap desain yg lebih aman.
